Hey! That's a LOT of nibs! (Or 2018 by the numbers)
2018, you were a good year!
Sparrow Lettering has now been in business 3 years! It's hard to believe. That's what they all say, about how long something has been, and how time flies, and how babies don't stay little long...but they say it because it's true! And the beautiful thing about Sparrow Lettering is that when I started it 3 years ago, I had zero idea what was going to happen. I always tell people I am an ideas person but not so much a follow-through-with-ideas person. All I knew was that I had fallen in love with calligraphy, and I wanted to share that love with others. And here we are, starting our 4th year of business.
I love posts with lists, so I thought it would be fun to do a list of the important numbers for Sparrow Lettering in 2018. Here goes!
1 little baby named Clare Elva was born
4 different workshops
5 different venues
8 large bottles of Sumi Ink
22 workshops taught
42 pairs of shoes donated to kids through Luthando Africa
59 watercolor palettes for kits
231 Intro to Modern Calligraphy students
314 total students
3,475 copies for instruction packets
1,000,000 reasons to be thankful!
Obviously, baby Clare was the highlight of 2018. She has been such a delight to us! Other highlights were creating three new workshops (Level 2 Modern Calligraphy, Watercolor Brush Lettering and the Holiday Envelopes Mini Workshop), and teaching at two new venues. I also was blown away by everyone's generosity during the holidays with our shoe drive for Luthando Africa. With the pairs donated that I matched, our shoe drive purchased 42 pairs of shoes! That is incredibly exciting to me! Another highlight was keeping 3 plants alive for an entire year. (Seriously, I kill plants. All the time.)
I am so excited about 2019! There will be a new brush lettering workshop offered in the late spring, and I also have one or two new venues to share with you! I also hope to develop another mini workshop or two--you all loved the Holiday Envelopes Mini Workshop, so I'd love to offer some other shorter classes in addition to the 3 hour workshops I already offer. Maybe Envelopes for the DIY Bride? Yes? You can also be looking for more informational blog posts to help you on your lettering journey. And I just bought two new plants that I plan to keep alive all year.
Thank you to each of you who took a workshop this past year. Can't wait to meet the rest of you!
All the best,
